½ teaspoon salt
-
¼ teaspoon black pepper
-
½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
-
Pinch of paprika (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until smooth.

-
Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and stir in half of the cheese until fully melted.
-
Layer the sliced potatoes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
-
Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes, making sure all slices are coated.
-
Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and add a light dusting of paprika if desired.
-
Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
-
Remove foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and lightly golden.
-
Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Tips
-
Slice potatoes evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
-
Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded.
-
Letting the dish rest helps the sauce set before serving.
